After the trip: who owes whom what?
Three cars, shuttle runs, tolls. And not everyone was there for every leg. Ordinary split apps still throw it all into one pot: if you rode only half the distance, you still pay for the full tank.
- Several drivers, different distances, people arriving separately. A single lump-sum split will never be fair.
- Not every car drove shuttle, and not everyone was on every leg.
- One person paid out for the toll and the parking, but only for one leg.
- In the end everyone pays everyone, and nobody can keep track.

RapidSplit calculates leg by leg
The way trips really happen: you create the outbound drive, the shuttling and the return drive separately and mark for each leg who rode along. The app calculates the rest.

- Two billing methods: Per-km rate or real fuel costs, distributed by km share.
- Expenses per leg: Toll, parking or permit are paid only by the people who were there.

Driving costs as they really add up
RapidSplit models car costs as what they are - something a driver contributes on a specific leg, not an amount out of nowhere. That is exactly what Splitwise, Splittr, Tricount and Settle Up cannot do.
Calculate per leg
If you're not on a leg, you pay nothing toward its driving costs. You mark for each leg who was there - the app does the rest.
€/km or fuel - set globally
Bill using a fixed per-km rate (e.g. €0.35/km) – or with real fuel costs: you record fuel-ups as an expense of type "Fuel" with a vehicle assigned, distributed by kilometre share.
Driver expenses, leg by leg
Assign tolls, parking or permits individually - they only hit the people on the legs concerned, not the whole group.
Minimal settlement transfers
At the end you get “who pays whom” with the smallest number of transfers. No everyone-pays-everyone chaos.

Create a trip or continue one
On the start screen you manage several trips side by side: continue one, create a new one, or join a shared trip with a code. Deleted trips stay in the trash for 30 days.
Create the legs
Give the trip a title and travel dates, then create the legs: outbound drive, shuttling, return drive. Each leg is later settled only with the people on it.

RapidSplit was checked against an independent calculator in a random test across 10,000 cases. The result: every cent arrives, with a deviation of under 0.5 cents. The big split apps do not disclose this kind of mathematical verification.

From the basic details to “who pays whom” - here's how it works.
Create the trip
Give your trip a title and travel dates, then create the legs - the individual driving stretches such as boathouse, shuttle run 1, shuttle run 2 and the return drive. Later, each leg's driving costs are shared only by the people who actually rode along.
Add the group
Enter all participants. Optionally add a club or family name. Tick the “driver” box for everyone who came in their own car or drove one - only drivers generate driving costs and expenses.
Set Who & Where
Mark who was there for each leg. That assignment automatically determines how the leg's driving costs are split.
Record driving costs
Drivers enter their kilometres per leg. Set once for everyone: either a per-km rate (e.g. €0.35/km) or real fuel costs – you record fuel-ups in the "Expenses" tab as type "Fuel", distributed by km share.
Add expenses
Record shared expenses such as groceries, the campsite or rental fees. State who paid how much - several payers are possible - and who the expense applies to. It is split evenly among those people.
View the summary
RapidSplit calculates what each person owes or receives on balance: “who pays whom” with the minimum number of transfers, the balances, and the detailed cost breakdown per leg. Export it all as a PDF in light day mode or as a file for backup.

RapidSplit runs without an account. By default your entries stay on your device in localStorage – only what you explicitly share is uploaded, and then end-to-end encrypted. No tracking, no ads. The source code is openly available on GitHub.

Does the app work offline?
Yes. RapidSplit is offline-first: ideal out in the field where there is no signal. Your data lives locally on your device – the RapidSplit server only comes into play when you explicitly share a trip. Only the optional, switchable exchange-rate fetch for foreign currencies contacts a rate service, without any trip data.
How does RapidSplit settle driving costs?
Per leg. Drivers enter the kilometres they drove. Settlement uses a per-km rate – or real fuel costs, which you record as fuel-ups of type "Fuel" in the "Expenses" tab; distribution follows each person's share of the kilometres. A leg's costs are shared only by the people on it.
Can I continue a trip across several devices?

Does RapidSplit support multiple currencies?
Yes. Expenses can be recorded in 23 currencies – with stored daily rates that you can adjust by hand if needed. The settlement converts everything into your base currency.
Can I export the result?
Yes. The "Who pays whom" summary can be exported as a PDF. You also export every table as CSV for Excel & co., and back up the whole trip as an export file – or share it directly via QR code or 6-digit code to edit it together.
How secure is sharing a trip?
When you share, the trip is encrypted with AES-256-GCM directly on your device – the key lives only in the QR code or share code and never leaves the group of people you invited. The server stores encrypted data only and cannot read it. You can delete the server copy in the app at any time, and the server code is open source and can be inspected in the GitHub repository.
Which platforms does RapidSplit run on?
As an installable PWA in the browser. That works on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. On top of that, RapidSplit is also available as a native Android app. All from the same codebase, open source on GitHub.
How do I install RapidSplit like an app on Windows, macOS or Linux?
RapidSplit is a PWA and can be installed straight from the browser as a standalone app - with its own window, an icon in the start menu or dock, and full offline functionality:
Chrome, Edge, Brave (Windows, macOS, Linux): Open the app and click the install icon (monitor with arrow ⤓) at the right-hand end of the address bar - or menu ⋮ → “Install RapidSplit”. Confirm, done.
Safari (macOS Sonoma or newer): Menu “File” → “Add to Dock …”. RapidSplit then shows up in the dock like a native app.
Firefox: does not support direct PWA installation. Add a bookmark instead, or use Chrome or Edge to install it.
Once installed, RapidSplit starts in its own window without a browser bar and runs completely offline.
